She Said Yes

When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. ~Nora Ephron

With fifty roses in his arms, he pulled out the single white rose, knelt on his knee by a horse-drawn carriage and asked, "Will you marry me?"  And our Emily has not stopped smiling since.

We've rejoiced while listening to her story over and over, sharing the exciting news with all the special people in her life. Social media brought many congratulations as her friends rejoiced with her.

We shared with Jonathon that Emily comes from a long line of happy marriages. I don't know how far back it goes, but at least to her great grandparents.

Having a happy marriage doesn't mean life is a storybook tale. There are hard times in business, sons and grandsons go off to war, cancer grows, loved ones die and stress hits.  But it's in the way we face the hardships that decides their impact on a marriage.

Those who walked before me faced life with their God.  Hands clasped tightly, covered with the hand of our Almighty God. It's the dearest heritage I could have and the one RB and I have tried to carry on.

Jonathon and Emily will have occasions that bring joy to them. It's a joy to share life and love. Yet life will also bring them challenges and heartaches.  Their love will last a lifetime if they keep God's hand covering theirs.

It's not easy giving our children away. Yet, it's how God planned it. Jonathon gave RB his word that he'll be the spiritual leader of their home. We know he'll cherish her. And we gain another son.

So for now, eyes are sparkling and we are planning. December 2014 seems like a long time off, yet I know it will be here quickly. One more marriage built on God's foundation.  Their love growing in His.

  9. Congratulations on your new son! What a beautiful story! He seems like such a fine young man and I am very happy that your Emily found someone worthy of her love!
Divorce is unknown in our family too. I think that tradition keeps couples trying harder when problems arise.
Looking forward to seeing what you have planned for December 2014!

  12. What a beautiful story. I pray they will have a long and happy lie together as her heritage suggests. Yes, it is difficult to see your child grown and leave the coup, but that's the way of things. They will visit often I'm sure. The photos are a joy..

  19. Oh, this is wonderful! Congratulations! You are so right about marriage being so much more than a storybook tale. Facing the difficulties that come, together, with a shared faith in God, makes all the difference. We are learning that and I'm grateful for the generational knowledge in our families, too. God bless!
