Sharing the Shelter #9 and Giveaway

God had an only Son and He made Him a missionary.
 ~ David Livingstone ~

My nephew, Jordan, and his wife are missionaries to the Hunkpapa
Sioux on Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in north central South Dakota. One of the highlights of our Christmas season was having them stop by on their way home to Ohio and Pennsylvania. Melanie fixed a delicious lunch and their three children were able to run and play while we visited a bit.

A missionary is defined as "one who is sent on a mission, especially one sent to do religious or charitable work in a territory or foreign country." Oswald Chambers defines a missionary as "someone sent by Jesus Christ just as He was sent by God."

According to Chambers' definition my daughter is a missionary in her own home. As a writer, I am a missionary whose words are sent out to be read by others. My pastor is a missionary, sent by God to open the Word to his congregation. Missionaries--all of us. I want to be faithful to the sending.

How neat! I adore South Dakota, and I didn't realize that there were still missionary opportunities within the U.S with American Indians. My husband and his family lived on a reservation near Farmington, NM when he was a boy, and ministered to a tribe (the name escapes me at the moment) in that area.

I love that definition of a missionary, and I love that you've shared with your readers that blogging, pastoring, etc. is also a BEING a missionary. Not everyone is called to leave their native country to move far away on missionary duty. God bless!

I'm not exactly the inspirational type, but I am so awed by your nephew & his wife. Gives me hope.

"Missionaries...all of us" So true! I once told someone that I already had a missionfield... my two children. My calling...to win them for Jesus!! Blessings and thank you for your post. Also, thank you for your kind words on my blog.

I do believe that we all have opportunities to be 'missionaries' where we are placed, just visiting neighbours, cooking a dish for someone who is ill, a quick phone call.... So many possibilities.

A missionary who spoke at a Missions Conference at our church a few years ago said that everyone is either a missionary or a mission field. If you're born again, you're a missionary that God has placed in your own unique sphere of influence. Your mission field could be as close as the unsaved person sitting next to you at work or even in the church pew. Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & God bless!

Everyone has gifts from God, and we have to discover our gifts for our Mission. These are gifts that the Lord gives us in special combinations and strengths to help us to do the work we are called to do. Wonderful post Pamela! :)

Blessings and love,
Denise

Thanks for stopping by Growing Kids Ministry. I love hearing the stories from missionaries and love that we can be missionaries without traveling far distances.
