Raising Cowboys

The cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man or take unfair advantage.  ~Anonymous

Is there anything cuter than a miniature cowboy?  Of all the toys at Mawmaw's house I think the cowboy toys get the most use.  It's not only the boys -- I've caught a little girl with guns around her hips, rocking her baby.

A Cowboy For Jesus
Verse
I'm just a little fellow, but I always want to be,
a cowboy sticking close to the Man of Galilee.
I want to do some roping of the souls who are in sin,
and keep them all for Jesus in the Holy Ghost Corral.

Chorus
I'll be a cowboy, a Christian cowboy,
I'll work for Jesus all my days.
And on the prairie or in the city,
I'll help to round up all the strays!

The song "A Cowboy For Jesus"
was written by Ira Stanphill in 1948.

If you want to raise your cowboy to be a real man, then this book should be on your shelf.  Raising Real Men is written by Hal and Melanie Young.
Amazon's review says:

Raising Real Men looks beyond the untied shoes and dirty jeans to what the Lord means your son to be. Learn how to help him focus on schoolwork, find real heroes, stand alone when he needs to, and become a real man one day. Don t just survive raising boys, succeed at it and learn how to love them as they really are.

So raise Christian cowboys.  Don't just survive, but succeed.  And remember this age old advice: When a cowboy has a chew in his mouth, don't hit him on the back.

* * * * *

If you've raised your cowboy, I suggest you purchase a copy of Raising Real Men for a parent of boys.  I promise you'll be blessed by your generosity.

Look out, Mountain Lions and Cougars!

Hat's Off to Cowboy Snacks

What fun -- A Cowboy needs his snacks

Fill his hat with peanuts, string cheese, a bit of chocolate and carrots for his horse.  Such a fun gift for $5.00.  You can always add a horse, too.  And of course, what's a gift without a book.

Growing up Cowboy
by
Jack Sorenson

I love what Sorenson's son wrote on Amazon:

I'm the oldest of five grown kids and the artist featured in this book, Jack Sorenson, is our dad. I couldn't be more proud of him or the great reviews his book has received on Amazon! I'm proud to say that the values treasured in this book have been upheld by Dad in life. He pours his heart and soul into every painting he creates, even into the titles he give them. I STRONGLY recommend this book to little cowboys and cowgirls, as well as anyone who has grown up with a little of the cowboy spirit in them.

Raising Real Men--seems like a good quality book that many (myself included) could benefit from reading. Thanks for the recommendation!

(ha ha! ...don't hit him on the back. Funny!)

Hi Pamela, I really enjoyed this post. I would like to read this book and check out your other resources. Your grandson is so cute!

Thanks for stopping by this morning...I added a whole bunch more to that post. I had to post what I had because Blogger is giving me a hard time ... but it is finished now. No, I haven't seen the picture books yet. I think that I need to go to the library.

Have a great day!

Another great post with an adorable gift idea! Don't have any little "cowboys" of my own, but there's always other people's kids to "spoil!"

I have 2 little "cowboy" grandsons. Have you ever read the cowboy's prayer?

Love that painting by Sorenson.

HI Pamala> beautiful blog!
Thanks for your comment and for the book recommendation. I has a little boy who, God willing, is on his way to being a real man for God.
BTW...I do live in Indiana and that storm was CRAZY!
God Bless you,
Jill

What a great post! Fantastic gift idea! I know so many moms who won't let toy guns in their homes, but I think that using play to talk about how soldiers use them for God and country, and to protect their families, or how cowboys use them also in protection is a nice lesson. What a lovely song excerpt! I've never heard of it before. Thanks for sharing.

What a sweet post! When my boys were younger they went through a cowboy phase, too! Then they studied about The Alamo in school and they dove right into the world of Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone...taking us along for the ride!LOL! Fun times!

Loved your precious grandson jumping over the trunk of the tree! Just too CUTE! I agree, we need more cowboys/men and it's up to the parents to guide them. Of course, that's assuming the parents are strong enough! LOL
(I was raised in AZ and my dad had boots, cowboy hat and guns on his hip when we went exploring through the desert)
This was an excellent post!

What an adorable little cowboy! Thank you so much for following my blog and leaving such a sweet comment. I rarely get such thoughtful comments from blog hops (although I still appreciate every one).

Hi Pamela...

What a sweet post, my friend! I love Jesus and I love cowboys...so it just doesn't get any sweeter! You know, I hadn't ever heard that Ira Stanphill song. Well dear lady, I had three daughters and never got to experience raising a boy until all my grandchildren came along. I now have 8 grandsons and 2 granddaughters! Believe me...the boys have had they share of cowboy fun as well! Your little cowboy is absolutely adorable and I loved that cowboy hat snack pack...awesome! Thank you so much for sharing this sweet post with us today!
