Be Still... and Know

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen,
not only because I see it,
but because by it I see everything else.
~C.S. Lewis

I had a list for my day--much I wanted to accomplish. In the midst -of crossing laundry room off I heard, Be still. Me? Pain usually finds me fidgeting, trying to get more comfortable. Be still. Me? I need to be doing something even when I'm sitting -- reading, writing, crocheting. Be still. How can I? There's a house to clean, laundry to do, and a blog post to write. Be still.

As I reach for my Bible and prepare to still myself, I stop.  The next few words of the verse drop straight from my brain to my heart--Be still and know that I am God.  It wasn't in the stilling, but in the knowing. When I began to meditate on the knowing, I found a stilled heart, infused in peace.

In the stillness I listened
with knowledge of heart,
Abba, I knew,
My Father who loves.

Still and knowing
It's clear in my heart,
Philos, I knew,
This Friend who stays.

And then--more knowing
like a heart-fountain flowed;
Machseh, Magen, El Chay
My Refuge, Shield, my Living God.

How blessed I am that God would call me to stillness. What joy I carried with me as I puttered in domestic duties--my heart pouring its knowing...Yahweh Yireh--my provider, Mersuda--my fortress; Adonay--my Lord...

It is so hard to be still. One of the hardest things to do.

Just re-furbished my blog space on the innerwebs and put your blog there so people can go to it and get a moment of respite.

Blessings, Nancy

Beautiful post. Glad I've read them. Be still for God is sometimes difficult but when he comes with His Spirit it is possible :-)

Big hug, your Dutch sister in Christ.

I love the quote from C.S. Lewis. Yes, I struggle with the fidgeting and not being still enough. I love how you emphasized the knowing. :)

I had that scripture written out and taped to the front of a bible I kept in a desk drawer at work. When things got tough and I went to pull out my bible to read, I'd often just have to see those words, and it was enough. More than enough. xo

beautiful....stillness...quiet...it'swhere I find strength and courage. Great reminder and Pamela...thanks for still praying about my manuscript situation. It's slowly real slowly beginning to turn in my favour. Wishing you a beautiful day out there....

How many times does He call me to be still and I refuse to hear Him?

Perhaps autumn, with its golden beauty, calls us to stillness...

Beautiful words and a lovely reminder to take time from our busy schedules to stop and listen and praise God! He should be at the top of "to do" list everyday! :)

Blessings and love,

Oh, to know HIM more! And I wonder if the "being still" doesn't help us to do that better. Thanks for this lovely post...and your lovely blog!

This a beautiful reminder for all of us to spend that still, quiet time with God. We definitely will not regret the refreshment we receive from Him. Thank you for sharing this!

I love how our posts are about similar things today! So much of peace is in the stillness that we find in God. When we are filled with Him, there is so much less of this world that we seek to cram into our lives.

So good to pause, breathe and be still in our very busy lives ... better yet, how wonderful to bask in breathtaking realisations and truly know and understand the depth of this stillness.

This photo is breathtaking. And that made me be still. Funny how God does that - he wows me with nature and then I must be still.
