What a teacher writes on the blackboard of life can never be erased. ~Author Unknown
Teachers...they impact our lives--some are right on, while others miss the mark. I hated History until I had Mrs. Rosengreen. She made history come alive. Studying history was finally more than dusting off boring facts and important dates.
Mr. Morris fed my love of books. If our class completed our work in the morning he would read to us in the afternoon. I can still see him seated behind the desk, wiping his eyes while reading us Gentle Ben. My love of thrillers was born with him reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books.
These were "second mile" teachers. Teachers who did more than present us with knowledge. I had the privilege of watching another "second mile" teacher in action this past week. Landon was playing in his first Little League game. Earlier during the week he asked Mrs. Turner, his kindergarten teacher, to come and watch him play.
Mrs. Turner is a pastor's wife. I'm sure Saturdays are busy with preparations for the Sabbath. On top of that the school golf tournament was on the same day as the game so she had been on the golf course from 6:30 until early afternoon overseeing various activities. In spite of her busyness, Landon's teacher showed up to watch him play. That's a "second mile" teacher!
Henry Brooks Adams said, "A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell where his influence stops." Take a few moments this week to thank a teacher for their eternal influence.
1. Write a note of thanks to a teacher who impacted you.
2. Put together a pampering basket for a home-school mother.
3. Send a thank-you gift with your child for his/her teacher.

Treats for a Little Leaguer
I will admit to cheating when making these treats for Ethan and Landon. I bought the Kellogg individually wrapped Rice Krispie treats. I formed them into circles, dipped them in the white chocolate and then cheated again--using a tube of gel icing to add the lacing.

My list of influential teachers is long, too.
What a beautiful post and wonderful ideas!!! Thank you for sharing!
I hope I will be the kind of teacher that you and Henry Brooks Adams describe! :) you've made me think about the teachers that influenced me.
So true....teacher's have the awesome opportunity to make learning interesting and fun or (hopefully not) boring and something to be dreaded!
Love your cute gift ideas (especially the cute Little League treats!).
yOu are so creative:)
What a beautiful post and tribute to second mile teachers! Lovely 'appreciation' gift ideas too :D
P.S. Thank you for the lovely, encouraging comment you left on my blog today - appreciated.
As a retired teacher, I so appreciate your words! And your creative ideas are wonderful - as always!
Thanks for reminding me of excellent teachers who influenced our lives. Your teachers and their teachers all have a heart to encourage us and our children and children's children.
Thank you for including one of my ideas! :)

What a beautiful post today. Also, thank you for featuring my Teacher Appreciation gift.
Thank you so much for including my "Thanks for Helping Me Grow" flower pots in this fantastic post! I have a special spot in my heart for teachers and love what you shared.
These are great ideas for teachers...they are so influential to us...I learned to like history too
Hello Pamela, The second mile teachers, like the same with nurses, give their all, they really care. And like you said, they gave you a hunger for what they love. I hated biology in high school until I had a teacher who was so passionate about it, that I leaned to love it also.
These people are special, and rare.
so true what you wrote and cute little gifts. There have been a few teachers that made a different in my life and people who've crossed my path unexpectantly have also become teachers who I hold in my heart. Wishing you a very happy mother's day.
