I am a soldier in the army of my God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, prayer and the Word are my weapons of warfare.

He's the baby brother of the one Emily loves. First, special because of who he belongs to, but before long, just special for himself. When Nathaniel's around our table we have a laugh a minute. He's just funny. Add his humor to Emily's, and it's like Solomon proclaimed--the best kind of medicine.
Sunday was the last time he'll sit around our table for a while. Monday he leaves for boot camp. In Emily's words, "We are gonna miss him like crazy, but we sure are crazy proud of him."
I don't have trouble picturing Nathaniel as a soldier in the USA army. But he's also a soldier in God's army. Being a soldier in the United States Army will require him to put on the armor of God daily. For along with the enemies of our country, Nathaniel will be battling the enemies of our God. He'll need:
The Helmet of Salvation to protect his mind.
The Breastplate of Righteous to protect his heart.
The Girdle of Truth for power and strength against temptation.
His feet shod with the gospel to share Jesus with others.
The Shield of Faith to protect what he believes.
The Sword of the Spirit to gain wisdom and guidance each day.
And Nathaniel will need us to faithfully pray that he will not defect from the army of God -- that he'll strive to be the best he can be, not only in the US Army, but also in God's Army.
We're proud, yes. Proud that God will use him to keep our country safe. And proud that God will use him in His army. That by standing for truth, keeping himself pure, and daily learning from God's word, he will come back from boot camp a stronger soldier than when he left. And that's my prayer.

My prayers for Nathaniel and my gratitude, too, for all he gives to our country.
Beautifully written post!
My heart goes out to you.... {hugs}
Hi Pamela,
I lift Nathaniel up in my prayers. BTW, this is the second post I read today which spoke of putting on the full armor of God. This is something so critical for us to stand strong in this fallen world.
Blessings,
Ken
Such a touching post.
Blessings and love for Nathaniel, and for all of you as well. Wishing him strength as he steps forward to serve not only our country, but as a servant and soldier of God!
Hugs and joyful blessings Pamela!

What a wonderful young man. May God be with him every day.
Bless him. Saying a prayer for him now...
My son went to bootcamp last year - they will have a facebook page for his training unit where they will post photos and have a day to day schedule. It was such a comfort - you won't get access to it until they let him contact you which won't be for a couple of weeks. I created a Scripture Collage for a Soldier Son and a Prayer for A Soldier son - they both helped me pray through his boot camp:

Such a great reminder that we ARE at war! That we need to have our armor on! And that we, like this sweet young man, are soldiers in the Army of God!
My son joined a few years ago too. It's quite the mix of emotions when they do that.
Your tribute to your son is really nice!
