Picnic with God

Fellowship is participation in the light and love of God... thus it is a fellowship of joy. The closer we walk with the Lord, the brighter will be the evidences of our Divine sonship.

Thirty nine years ago RB and I went on a picnic to Blue Spruce Park in Pennsylvania.  I don't remember what I packed in our basket, but I do remember how fun it was. Years later, married and with little Melanie, we enjoyed picnics on Monroe Lake.  We'd stop before we left town at our Kentucky Fried Chicken instead of packing a basket. It was a place of peace for us, feeling the breeze from the lake, eating our picnic treats, and watching the boats and water skiers.

You have welcomed me as your guest; blessings overflow!

That's how I feel when I picnic with God. Peaceful.  It's there in the folds of the quilt as He "prepares a table before me." The pain and cares of life fade away in that picnic space. The problems are still beyond the quilt, but the reprieve fosters peace.

You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies.

When God packs the picnic basket, it's full of treats. Yes, as mature Christians we desire the meat of the Word, but picnics deserve fun food.

Words of promise:

Don’t be afraid, for the Lord will go before you and will be with you; he will not fail nor forsake you.

Words of love:

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.

Words of peace:

May the Lord bless and protect you; may the Lord’s face radiate with joy because of you; may he be gracious to you, show you his favor, and give you his peace.

When the picnic cloth is folded and basket put away, we find ourselves once again ready for battle. The food restored us, the time with God energized us.

He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak...they that [picnic with] the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Have you had a picnic with God lately? He's standing at your heart, just waiting for you to answer His invitation.

Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call, and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.

Beautiful words of comfort. Perfect words from our Loving Savior. Your post today was a picnic moment for me.

I loved the photos of the *newer* husband and wife, but I thought you and RB were just adorable.

GOD BLESS!

That time of refreshing is so important! Thanks for sharing it in such a lovely way! I love the idea of sitting on a quilt just out of the way of the battle and being refreshed and renewed. Blessings to you and thanks for visiting my blog.

I have not thought of the picnic idea, but my most peaceful moments are the "meetings" I share with Our Lord after undecided problems become so frustrating that I finally come to my senses and realize that he's the only one who will ever understand or tell me the right thing to do! Same idea - same results, but a "picnic" is lots more fun than a "meeting!"

Thanks for the glimpse of you and your RB as a young couple. I think this is adorable! Before Luigi and I were married we did not have chance to go out on dates as a twosome. I was always chaperoned. I thin picnics are a great idea, and how much more a picnic with the Lord! He will always feed us good things!!! Blessings to you, Pamela!

What a lovely picture of you two-love it! I liked where you said "When the picnic cloth is folded and basket put away, we find ourselves once again ready for battle. The food restored us, the time with God energized us." This is so true; I can use this phrase over and over again Pamela! Thanks for sharing!

Blessings dear friend,
Denise

Dear Pamela
This is my third week of the worst Fm/CFS flare in seven years and I need to stay lie down as much as possible. But let me assure you that I am having a wonderful picnic with our Lord Jesus as He feeds me little tidbits of Himself moment by moment, it is so amazing how incredibly real and close He is to those who suffer.
Blessings XX

Hi Pam! That picture of you and your husband is just PRECIOUS! Does it seem like yesterday?

And to keep that tradition and faith connection through your married life is such an inspiration. How blessed is your daughter to share this 'filling time' too. Makes me want to go on a picnic today :)

Blessings,
Ceil

I wish I could go sit at a picnic with God today. Instead, I'm cleaning house and cooking to have friends over. I guess my picnic with Him will have to be tonight with my other guests! :) Love this post.
