Virtual Blog Tour

I would advise anyone who aspires to a writing career that before developing his talent he would be wise to develop a thick hide.  ~Harper Lee

Ramona from Create With Joy invited me to be a part of a Virtual Blog Tour. I'm honored that she chose me. Romana shares her blogland space each week with her linky parties: Inspire Me Mondays, Wordless Wednesdays, and Friendship Fridays. Romana believes that "Creativity is not necessarily a special calling or gift from God to the few, it is a natural expression of the fact that we are created in the image of God, who is the Creator. It is His thumbprint on our souls, a part of His signature. The real question is, “How will I live out this fingerprint of God on my life?”

1. What am I working on?

Besides blogging and ghost writing, I am working on a new undated Sunday School curriculum for Herald and Banner Press -- Word Alive! I've taken it from conception to writing sample lessons for four age groups, and last week sent assignments to my writers. Word Alive! takes children from toddlers through preteen through Learning God's Word, Loving God's Word, and Living God's Word. We want to teach the next generation to put God's Word into action. It's been a huge project, but so fun and rewarding.

Also, my husband and I are writing a Bible Study for Jeff Keaton's The Life of Radical Faith. If you want to live a more dynamic and fruitful Christian life, I urge you to read his book. It's antidote-driven and leaves you wanting to embrace the sacrificial faith life. RB and I are loving working together on this project.

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

My work differs in that I gather my inspiration from my family: my mother, daughters and husband. It gives me different slants to work from, new ways to look at my subjects. I strive to make everything I write to be encouraging -- even if it's a difficult subject God leads me to write about.

3. Why do I write/create what I do?

I write because I'm compelled to put the words bouncing around in my soul into order. I love words. I love how they can be arranged in a way that creates beauty and an emotional pull.

4. How does your writing/creating process work?

I just write. Every day. Lots! It's who I am and what I do. Sometimes inspiration hits me when I'm supposed to be sleeping, and I scribble in the dark. Sometimes inspiration seems far away, but as I dutifully arrange words on the computer screen it's as if the words take on a life of their own. Sometimes I reread the words and wonder, "Where did that come from?"

The hardest part about blogging is that there isn't time to polish the posts -- not if I'm writing three a week. So my blog readers just have to understand they are flawed. You may find a word misspelled (although I hope not often) or find a thought unexplored.

So there it is, a little bit about me and my creative process. Do you relate, and how does your process differ?

I can't wait to work with you. My creative process is messy. But there is an order to the mess, i sketch everyday. Sometimes it's nonsense, sometimes there is inspiration. You also have to have thick skin in this genre. It's easy to question if you are truly capable, when someone sends you a letter stating they aren't interested.

Thank you for sharing a bit of your life and writing process. I'm in a season where I just don't have the time I once did for my blog. I know it's just a season, so I'm continuing the best I can.

Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura

I enjoyed this peek into your writing process, Pamela. I'm glad you're a prolific writer because many of us are blessed as a result.

I don't get to edit as much as I'd like either. If I had unlimited time, I'd love to edit a lot longer; it's a process I enjoy.

Pamela,

What a fun blog post link up idea. I didn't know that you and your husband were working on a Bible study project, nor that you wrote curriculum. Good for you!

Re your comment on my post "Friendships that Linger over Lunch and Whisper in the Darkness," I'm so touched and thankful that God used my post for you and your husband in that time, Pamela. Isn't God sweet and powerful the way he works? He's done that for me too at the perfect times too.

He is big and he loves you, friend,

Wow! I'm impressed by all you do. I was just agonizing yesterday over my lack of ideas for writing devotionals and blog posts. I admire your ability to sit down & write! Thanks for sharing the details of your writing life with us. Blessings!

I loved reading how you write and all the things that you write. Your Sunday School curriculum really interests me. I would just love to sit down with you sometime. At least we can somewhat do that through visiting each other's blogs.

Well, I finally made it over here though it took me the whole day.
