This girl graduated. The baby of the threesome who have been friends for twelve years. Twelve years of laughter and love, keeping secrets and sharing joy -- shedding tears when days were hard for one of them. We celebrated her last night as she graduated. So many pictures clicked through my mind as the principal prayed over her kneeling at the altar and I found myself rejoicing in how she is becoming God's girl with hopes and dreams of the best kind.
We spread across the pew, her family and our family. Katie and Emily together, just like they love to be, although their together times are few. I watched Katie, now a momma, entertain her sweet Camden throughout the speeches, sermon, and presentations. It delighted me to see how much he loves his books. I watched as Camden took his mother's finger to show he wanted her to point to objects on the book's page.
That's when God spoke to me -- right in the middle of a salutatory speech. That's what you do when you pray, the Holy Spirit whispered. You move the hand of God. With my heart's eyes I saw myself taking God's hand and pointing it to the places I needed His help. "Here, Lord, I need help here." Then, "Look over here, Lord. I need you to answer this prayer."
As the graduates threw their hats in the air with joy, my heart had a celebration of its own. It's a thought I've held close today -- every time I pray, I move the hand of God.

What a beautiful group of friends, and now all of them graduates! Your message confirms that God is truly personally interested in every aspect of our lives. It's hard to imagine sometimes, but all he wants from us in return is our trust and requests for his help and advice.
I have learned that the more I recognize the hand of God, the better I am able to follow His lead; I have experienced Him holding me and extending His hand of truth and hope many times an many ways! :) Congratulations to the graduates!
