Creativity Abounds!

Focusing on the creative spirit within, it is designed to help artists draw their inspiration from a Deeper Source. It is deeply rooted in Scripture—for the creative Christian must enter into the Word of God on a regular basis in order to know the choreographer of their steps, the crafter of their designs, the author and perfector of their faith, and the sculptor of their creative heart, soul, mind and body. And to know Him intimately. ~Jody Thome

She inherited it, you know -- this creativity that overflows in her 6-year-old life. Great Great Grammy Gromley, Great Grandma Cessna, Mawmaw Kuhn, Mommy and Morgan: Five generations of creativity.

Yet, even though birthed in her soul it must be cultivated. Once learning to color in the lines, she must be freed to color outside them. For that is where the genius lies.

It's paint pots, fancy edge scissors and paste. It's markers, crayons and highlighters. Stickers, stamps and ink pads. Coloring books, foam shapes and pipe cleaners. Fabric, glitter and glue sticks. Construction paper, washi tape and playdough. Feathers, paint brushes and punches.

It's a mother who doesn't insist on following the directions and perfect creations. For joy comes in the creating, not in the finished product. It's the widening of your soul, breathing color and embracing mistakes as art. As Maya Angelou said, "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

And so we gift art supplies and indulge her need to create. We cut out coloring book characters and make up stories about them. We sew, crochet and push yarn through plastic mesh. We string beads and play dress up. For it doesn't matter what's in your hand -- a paintbrush, a pen or a needle. What matters is that you turn your tool into a creative offering for the Creator of the world.

What's your creative tool of choice?

My fingers! I am a prophetic painter who uses mostly her fingers to create abstract art! Thanks for sharing this post!

Amen. So well said. I need to be creative to survive. Coloring outside the lines, isn't that exactly what our Lord did when He made us all?

Give me a pen and paper! I love that line "Joy comes in the creating..." Yes, in expressing what is within us, what the Creator gives us, that is JOY! Thanks, Pamela!

One of my creative tool is writing, but I love so many other ways to make things. And to pass ideas on to my grand kids is so much fun. I'm glad he made us in his image with the unbounded possibilities of creating!
